Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress

James Clear

As Atomic Habits author James Clear defines it, a system is what is done to accomplish a goal. Here’s how he puts it:

  • If you’re a coach, your goal is to win a championship. Your system is what your team does at practice each day.

  • If you’re a writer, your goal is to write a book. Your system is the writing schedule that you follow each week.

  • If you’re an entrepreneur, your goal is to build a million dollar business. Your system is your sales and marketing process.

But what about for fitness?

What are are the essential systems for any fitness goal?

Regardless of your fitness goal (lose weight, gain weight, maintain weight, etc…) here are the three must-have fitness systems.

1. Movement

One of the biggest culprits behind any unhealthy lifestyle is inactivity due to sitting all day. This is also one of the simplest improvements anyone can make at any time.

This first system of movement addresses the sedentary lifestyle by focusing on behaviors (i.e. daily steps) that lead to improved general health.

2. Strength

Once movement is in place, the next thing to focus is on strength. This system improves the ability of your body to do things for longer periods of time and with more energy.

The most important variables within this system is to find the training movements that give you the most return for your time. This is why I have personally chosen kettlebells.

3. Nutrition

Lastly, the final thing to focus on is nutrition. This system is the fuel and replenishment your body needs to move with strength.

The system takes the longest to piece together, but the most important things to focus on here is the right mix of foods that allow for the most consistency for the longest period of time.

P.S. Putting these three things together for you is exactly what the Kettlebell Strength System does
